current mood: geeky
I am so in love with Star Trek right now.
That is to say, the Original Series. I like the other ones (except Enterprise - I can't deal with that one. Except for the hot Vulcan chick, but she's just eyecandy) but really, nothing compares to Original.
I've been working my way through them all in the last week or two, and in total I've watched about a season's worth (most of s1 plus some miscellaneous ones from other seasons.) Oh. Oh. I LOVE shows with awesome characters, and this one just.... just. Bones. And Kirk. And Spock. And ohmygod GUYLOVE. It's beautiful, simply put. I've even begun to love the more supporting characters, like Uhura. I didn't really like her in the movie because she kind of didn't have much of a personality, but in the original series she is so. cool. I honestly had no idea. Not to mention she's not hard on the eyes. [/lesbian]
I've been watching between two and five episodes per day, plus the movies (Geoff has been sending 'em to me and we watch them together via internets. Ahhh geeky delights.) I'm 105% addicted. xD It's to the point where I barely notice things being cheesy or whatever. I just get so lost in the episode itself that a silly looking special effect or whatever often doesn't even register as anything but part of this particular universe.
I think my favourite episodes so far have to be:
The Menagerie I & II - The ending genuinely caught me by surprise! I really liked The Cage, which of course this episode was based around, and I think they used the footage from it very cleverly. Also, the female character "Number One" was surprisingly cool considering the sheer number of brainless chicks aboard the Enterprise. xD I would have liked her to come back as a regular in the rest of the series... oh well... I already knew what happened in the end, with whatsherfaceblondechick and Pike, but the twist they added to it in this episode was really kind of hauntingly sad. I won't spoil it.
The Enemy Within - I've counted approximately five episodes (so far) that involve Evil!Kirk, and I like this one the best. xD Apparently evil versions of people either have beards, or wear eyeliner... So basically, if my father ever goes emo, or repeats that one drunken Halloween when he decided trying on my stepmom's skirt would totally not scar me forever, I think we'll be in trouble. D:
(...My dad has a beard.)
Miri - No one ever mentions this one on favourite lists because it's pretty silly, but I thought it was cute. The whole Miri/Kirk thing was kind of creepy but also weirdly adorable? Does that make any sense? Lolitaesque situations always kind of intrigue me. Not that anything actually "happens" between them (except that whole "You're a very pretty young lady" conversation, which is definitely the kind of thing that was probably acceptable in the 50s but would now be considered... rape. xD) But I dunno. I like it when characters are placed in unusual situations and I think this was pretty damn unusual.
The Devil in the Dark - Hortas. Star Trek has never failed to deliver excellent creatures from beyond our solar system, and these things didn't disappoint me on bit. xD Sort of like the cross between a carpet with a man underneath walking around, and a cluster of giant coldsores, I'd say it's pretty much the coolest thing Spock has ever mind-melded with. Oh, also? Spock mind-melds with it. Which leads to a very amusing final scene (I adore it when he discusses his proudness of being Vulcan (and gets all stubborn and doesn't like being associated with humans ♥) and the anatomy associated with being such. Teehee.)
I, Mudd - Simply put: "I "love" you .... But, I "hate" you." You just have to see it. I about pissed the floor. So much awesome in this episode.
The Trouble With Tribbles - Not to fall victim to the cliche (I don't think you can be a Trek fan and not like this episode) but this was one of those things that I just looked at and realized I was watching something incredibly great. (See: icon.) Tribbles...are so cute. And so horrible. xD And I really, really like it when Kirk gets annoyed by things. Also, when he's buried in piles of fuzzy cuteness. And, and, and.
So, that's my list as of now. I was going to put others on here (honestly there is so much I've enjoyed about this series) but I think if I haven't already gone on a big long-winded speech, that's what it would soon become. x) All I'll say is, I can't wait to watch more, and update the list. ;D
